Site
Requirements:
Basic Requirements:
A modern browser capable of HTTP Session Cookies, HTTP Data Streams,
Javascript 1.3+ support, and it must be capable of utilizing pages
with server side .ASP style code, Templates and CSS Style Sheets.
These requirements are all standard today and our new site usually
likes your browser cache settings turned on now!
Screen Resolution and Color Depth:
While most all of the primary site pages work fine in nearly all browsers
and screen resolutions, after Logon, the ARIA II Search Engine does
require a minimum screen resolution of 1024x768 in 64k
color mode. Browser dimensions are auto re-sized in resolutions of
1024x768+ to best suit the ARIA II Search Engine. Because of our lengthy
reports and full size documents any available screen length will be
utilized. If less than 65535 color's or 16 bit color is used, some
pages and form elements may not display correctly.
OS and Browser Combined Compatibility (Current Tech Status):
All of the following browsers were tested with their "Default
Settings" and "http://www.operadata.com" set as the
default home page (not required). If you are using a browser that
is not working or having issues and it is not listed here, please
email us with the support link to the left and tell us about the browser
name, version and problem you are experiencing. We will try to respond
with a fix or alternative as soon as possible.
Browsers with "Tabbed Browsing" were tested with Tabbed
Browsing Activated and Deactivated. A minor issue with some tabbed
browsers, some seemed to inhibit our "News Detail" pop up
pages from popping up where they were originally intended, they appear
in their own "Tabbed Window" with tabbed browsing On or
Off.
Windows
98se or higher + Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and higher (Heavily
Tested), (Link):
Works well and has only two known issues. Slow Logon Pages
Paints due to slow new session startup with browser. When
using our "Site Search Page" and using the Browsers
Back Button, IE creates an error page concerning it's inability
to auto-refresh a page generated from Form Data. While these
are actually an MS-IE issues as none of the other browsers
display these behaviors. We will be working on a way around
these issues. We have also noticed better overall Internet
compatibility with MS
IE 6.0 sp1 Web Install, (Link).
Windows
2000 or higher + Mozilla FireFox 1.06 and higher (Heavily
Tested), (Link):
FireFox 1.06 is fully compatible and seems to provide the fastest
screen updates and smoother screen transitions than either MS-IE or
Netscape. This was our test browser of choice and because
of it's comparability, performance and security we are recommending
it for normal daily use with our site. (This
is not an endorsement and we are not offering any kind of general
or specific support for the FireFox or any other browser!)
Windows
2000 or higher +Netscape 8.0.3.3 and higher (Lightly
Tested), (Link):
Netscape 8.0.3.3 has been tested briefly and while slower than FireFox
it seems to function completely.
MAC
OS-X + Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.2 (Lightly Tested),
(Link):
While IE 5.2 worked in OS 9.2.2 and 10.2+ IE still has an
issue of not refreshing a page when returning from a document so doc
links won't auto update. Versions of MAC OS X 10.3+ and 1.4+,
IE 5.2 Won't Work at all, browser locks at our Main-Menu
page after logon. While we don't know why these issues exist, however,
we will be working to correcting them! These Browsers aren't tested
as often as the Windows browsers so please report any problems.
MAC OS-X
+ OS-X Safari Browser (Lightly Tested), (Link):
Some fonts were off some +/- a size and the PDF viewing won't refresh
the original calling page on return, so doc links won't auto update
but otherwise it works well. These Browsers aren't tested as often
as the Windows browsers so please report any problems.
SuSE
Linux 9.3 and Konqueror 3.4+ (Lightly Tested), (Link):
Seems to work but needed a standard font shrinkage by 1 and has the
same refresh issue returning from documents the MAC browsers have.
These Browsers aren't tested as often as the Windows browsers so please
report any problems.
SuSE
Linux 9.0 and 9.3 both and FireFox 1.06 (Lightly Tested),
(Link):
Seem to work fast and correctly. These Browsers aren't tested as often
as the Windows browsers so please report any problems.
FireFox
- ALL OS's from version 1.06+ Slow Downs:
Versions 1.06 and up seem to be slower than they were in previous
versions, it now seems much closer to IE's performance however it
remains the only browser capable of completely error free operation
with Opera.
PDF Format Document Viewing:
As you might imagine Document Viewing requires Adobe
Acrobat Reader, (Link) 5.0 or higher.
If you are a Windows User and you don't have this installed already
it can be Located, Downloaded and Installed by clicking
here (Link). If you have MAC OS or Linux, PDF viewing is built
in.
Internet Connection Recommendations:
Opera's ARIA II Search Engine delivers large volumes of data
in the form of:
1. Sometimes Long and Comprehensive OR Index Search Reports.
2. Multi-Page .PDF OR Document Images.
3. Lengthy Listings of Previous OR Reports, Previous Admin Reports
and Previous Documents.
While Opera's site and the ARIA II Search System will run on less,
we recommend at least a 128kBits/s Synchronous internet connection.
(ASync v.90+ 56/28kBits/s Dial-up Modems are quite pokey!, but
still work!)
For best results we recommend a (384/128)kBits/s+ ASynchronous or
Synchronous connection or better or download speeds in excess of 384kBits/s.
(specifically if you are of light to medium usage with less than 500-800
transactions/month)
For Heavy usage where transaction counts exceed 800 per month we are
recommending (512/128)kBits/s or higher speeds. (800tc=512kBits/s,
1150tc=768kBits/s, 1500tc=1024kBits/s, etc. recommendations)
We have found that for general business browser access Cable can't
be beat with download speeds up to 2.5MBits and 5MBits. DSL is generally
the next most cost effective choice with speeds up to 1.5 MBits/s
and a T1 always works well with Speeds up to 1.5 MBits/s. Remember
the faster the download speed the better.
At our top delivery rate and a customer with a connection of 1.5Mbits/s,
Opera can deliver 1.5-3.0 Document Images a second and 500-800 lines
of OR Index report per second. (this is once an OR Report is finished
and the pages start transferring).
While Opera is not promoting Cable, DSL, or any other form of Communications,
we feel these options do offer the all around best bang for the buck.
We also feel that these higher bandwidth options will provide a better
overall Opera Experience.
Notes:
1. While we are not promoting Mozilla FireFox, if you are looking
for better performance, give it a try? Warning, before installing
FireFox be sure to check with any administrators concerned and be
sure to backup your data, as Opera will not be responsible for any
problems you may have with FireFox or any other browser!
2. Changes here may occur as a result of future system enhancements,
additions and or changes and may occur without notice.
3. Opera will always do its best to keep system requirements low and
browser compatibility high.
4. In future releases we will be testing the browsers listed, and
the "Opera Browser".
5. This site uses Non-Persistent Browser Memory/Temporary Cookies
for security and session management! (if your browser blocks all these
cookies you can't logon!) Unlike our older site this site no longer
has an issue with the browser cache settings, you may return them
to automatic or cached if you wish.
